By the Sea

From my childhood in Connecticut to my adult life in the San Francisco Bay area, I have always lived by the sea, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  What a powerful, restorative tonic even just a moment at the ocean's edge is for any soul. My husband and I had a date at the Redwood City marina recently.  We've never owned a sailboat, but I'm pretty sure it's at the top of his wish list now.

My first designer loves as a very young woman were Marc Jacobs (duh!) and Diane von Furstenberg. Today, let's talk about DVF. Diane herself is absolutely elegant and adorable, and all of her styles are, too.  My first DVF item wasn't an iconic wrap dress, though; it was a navy blue jacket that I treasure to this day.  It's absolutely versatile and incredibly timeless. I have been wearing it for years and it looks a fresh and classic as the day I bought it.

The wrap dress is indisputably the wardrobe item that flatters every figure. I have several, but purchased this particular one secondhand. It's raspberry, which is such a fun color.  Did I mention the pockets? And it twirls like a dream.  For this look, I paired it with a grown-up version of classic patent Mary Janes. Anyone who has ever been a little girl knows that a shiny pair of Mary Janes is an essential part of the sacred twirly dress formula.

Happy weekend, everyone! Hope it is going well!
