My hairdresser is a wise man, and once, when we were discussing why people permed their hair far longer than the duration of that particular hair trend, he said simply, "we tend to return over and over to the styles that have served us well." In other words, if you felt like hot stuff when you had a perm in high school, you might not let go of that feeling so easily.
On that note, let us discuss Comfort Clothes.
I love to go out and dress up. But I really love to pull on a cozy sweater and a pair of jeans. Nine out of ten weekends, you'll find me living in jeans and a sweater. It just feels right. These are my comfort clothes.
I've got jeans and sweaters for around the house (I'll spare you any visuals of those, and believe me when I say you're welcome), slightly more elevated denim and cardigan pairings for work, and then ultra cozy combos like these high-waisted, cropped J.Crew jeans and this Ralph Lauren cashmere pullover. If you sent me to a desert island with only one outfit in my suitcase, this is probably what I would take along.
My husband's family is from Mexico and his parents spend a fair amount of time there every year. My mother-in-law always brings me the loveliest, most colorful handmade accessories every time she returns to the U.S. These little silver heart earrings and this straw tote were both gifts from her travels.
I got this lavender silk neck scarf from my mother ages ago and I have worn it lots of different ways over the years. The sweater is borrowed from my husband, and he received it as a hand-me-down gift from a dear aunt of mine whose father passed away and left behind a lovely collection of cashmere. For me, nothing feels more comforting than wearing something with a little love and a little history woven into it.
One of the best parts of living on the San Francisco peninsula is having so many beautiful spots to visit on the water. My husband and I shared a long, leisurely walk by the marina while we took these photos. To be out in the salty air, with the sun shining gently as the fog burns away, is truly one of life's pleasures which affords me the ultimate sense of peace in my heart and soul.
Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone! Thanks for reading.
