I love lavender! Favorite color alert. My daughter always asks me why I love it. Great question, and for sure, a hard one to answer.
Lavender has always just felt right. I love the scent of lilacs in spring. I love wide open fields in the south of France. And possibly the strangest and most magical reason of all is genetics.
My great grand-mother was a poet in Nebraska and also played the organ. She ordered a custom Baldwin organ in lavender when she was alive, well before my time. My own grandmother reports that she was absolutely in love with the color lavender. Although I never met my great-grandmother, I remember feeling intensely to connected to her when my grandmother told me we had this strong affinity for the same favorite color.
We had her organ in my mother's sewing room for years and years when I was growing up and I was completely enchanted by it. But, as our family grew, we needed more space, and eventually, we sold it. Someone else owns it now; hopefully someone with a kindred lavender-spirited soul.
Despite the love, lavender isn't a color I wear very often as an adult. Perhaps this is because I had purple clothes overdose as a kid. Everyone knew I loved it, and when you're little, mostly other people pick out your clothes, so you can imagine how that story played out.
When I do wear lavender now, I feel like all is right in the universe, which is certainly a feeling I can sink into and embrace.
