My friend Meileena of The Sartorial Muse recently gifted me a big bag of her clothes. Slow fashion friends, this is the best gift possible! Obviously I'm very excited by the shop the closet / secondhand aspect of this gift, but I'm also surprisingly excited about the way this has become an unexpected catalyst for helping me to switch up my looks and get a little more adventuresome.
For starters, it's only recently that I've become really into wearing red. It's such a classic bright shade, and can be worn in so many elegant ways, but my face tends toward the red naturally and I have always avoided wearing things that I thought brought out that tone in my face. I got these Forever 21 shorts from Meileena and I love them! I find them as easy to dress up as to dress down, and am looking forward to styling them lots of different ways this summer.
Obviously, I'm wearing the best sunhat ever. I love summer (and winter, for that matter) hats, but I never thought I could pull off one so large with my small frame. But I was positively in love with this hat as soon as I put it on. I'm a total introvert, and I expected to feel like I might as well have been wearing a big sign that says "look at me!" with this large hat on, but in reality, I felt like I had my own private universe from which to safely peer out at the real world beyond the brim. Definitely a Security Hat.
It's kind of funny that I'm nailing two trends in one with this top - the swimwear as outerwear trend and the polka dots trend - because I really make zero efforts to be on trend. In fact, I am kind of a terrible classics snob who goes out of her way to make snide remarks about trends (and since I'm shy, the remarks are usually just to myself, inside my head). I just loved the contrast of red against the black and white, and geometrics are still one of the only prints I can wear with confidence.
And thus, a perfect lakeside summer outfit was born. Happy weekend, everyone!
