Yin and Yang

We spent the weekend camping, and I got really dirty and sweaty. It felt great. I love to be dirty and sweaty. But by the end of the weekend, I announced that I was ready to get home to fresh clothes and a warm bath and just generally ready to be feeling un-sweaty and clean.

It’s really true that doing something, and thoroughly enjoying it, can help to make the opposite equally enjoyable. The best part about getting dirty and sweaty is getting all cleaned up. I’m a proponent of balance in all of life’s pursuits. Except, ironically, I’m not a fan of the actual balance beam. I steer pretty clear of those ever since a very unfortunate gymnastics accident in elementary school.

One of the best aspects of embracing opposites and enjoying both elements of a dichotomy is the complete feeling of relief that comes with not having to choose. You don’t have to pick salad or cookies; enjoy them both. You don’t have to be a high heels girl or a flats girl; mix them up. It’s sweet relief to lean in on the yin and the yang.
