Black on Black

Hello, everyone!

My husband and I explored a beautiful little hidden gem over the past weekend, the Japanese garden in Hayward. What a calm oasis in the middle of the hectic East Bay! We went early in the morning and only encountered a few other visitors.  With three kids - one of whom had been in urgent care the day before with a reasonably serious injury - we really savor quiet moments when we can take the time to be reflective.

The weather lately has been pretty standard late-winter northern California temperatures, meaning foggy, chilly mornings but sun later in the day. Since we went to the Japanese garden early, I bundled up. I think the black on black palette makes a sharp contrast to the abundance of natural greenery.

If you are local, I definitely recommend a visit to the Hayward Japanese garden. It was lovely!

In the Trenches

A nice trench coat is a wardrobe staple that can get you through multiple seasons and can easily be dressed up or down. I finally settled on one I like last year. It's the Banana Republic petite flared ruffle trench, sold out in stores, but as seen here. The ruffle adds a flirty update, but overall, the silhouette is classic. I took mine on a trip to New Orleans and found it to be quite a versatile garment.  If you don't have a trench coat in your closet,  get on it! It is a purchase you won't regret.

Work Presentation

I had to give a big presentation at work. Here's what I wore.

I most definitely biked to work, and I pulled my two oldest children in the Burley trailer behind my Faraday bicycle.  And yeah, I changed my shoes once I got there.
