Building a Wardrobe of Classic Pieces

Happy Friday!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love classic, versatile wardrobe staples?

One of the best feelings in the world is to fall back in love with something old in the closet that hasn't been making it into the recent rotation. Enter this old pair of jeans. I got this pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans in 2004 and they were hand-me-downs from a friend of a friend. I wore them for years, and then...well, kind of got a bit bored of them. And gosh, bootcut sure went out for a while when the skinny jean craze hit the scene. But mark my words, hold onto any simple wardrobe item for long enough and it will come back into style. And that's when you get the wonderful feeling of falling in love all over again.

I also love investing in classics that can be worn for decades. This Agent Provocateur bodysuit was an addition to my closet last year and quickly became one of those versatile pieces I reach for over and over.  I love items that have both feminine and masculine touches, and the bow tie on this bodysuit adds just the right hint of masculinity to what is otherwise a very sensual and feminine top.

Shoes are absolutely a wardrobe component I choose to invest in.  I would much rather own a few, carefully selected, high quality pairs than a messy closet full of cheap, trendy ones.  In fact, I recently dedicated an entire post to the idea of How to be a Glamorous Shoe Minimalist. The right pair of shoes can give any outfit that polished "YES!" feeling. Lately I have been turning to these purple Manolo Blahnik pumps, which are one of the more playful items in my shoe collection.

Don't be afraid to shop the closet and pull out older items to bring back into rotation.  You might be surprised at how quickly you fall in love with them again! Investing in wardrobe classics is a surefire way to love your clothes for decades.
